spacerHello, my name is C.J. Compton. I would like to thank you for visiting our new web site. Compton Customs is a company that I started in 2007. I run the company along with my wife Meghan in Northwestern Indiana, about one half hour south of Chicago. We are dedicated to providing our customers with high quality heirloom type products. I am a self taught woodworker, though I have been around the carpentry trade my whole life. I am the son and grandson of new home builders. I have been fortunate to learn from my father’s dedicated attention to even the minutest detail. My love for woodworking started on the job with my father. When customers could not find items they wanted, we started to custom build them. These items include fireplace mantels, built-ins, wet and dry bars, mud room locker systems, and even an entire basement of custom fabricated wainscoting.
spacerLater I got into more traditional built furniture. During this time I started to truly fall in love with the artistic side of the work, along with the natural beauty of wood grain itself. This is the reason why there is no artificial coloring to any of my work. The only finishes we use are mineral oil (on all the food oriented items) and a wipe on clear polyurethane on the other items. Both give our products an old world hand rubbed look and allow the grain of the wood to be the real star of the designs. The glue used on all our products is Titebond III which is water proof and, most importantly, F.D.A. approved for indirect food contact. We use a wide variety of exotic and domestic hardwoods which gives us the ability to work with our customers on custom orders. The woods that we used can be seen in the “Wood Used” section of this site. We are passionate about the design process and maintaining an artistic edge to all our work. We are constantly coming up with new patterns and will work with you if you have a specific pattern/wood in mind.
